It is situated Celuk village is a traditional village located approximately 15km to south side Ubud Village or 8km from Denpasar capital. Balinese silversmiths are known worldwide for their intricate designs and meticulous attention to detail. Their skills are passed down from generation to generation. Original designs in delicate filigree make Balinese jewelry one of the most unusual styles in Asia and are sold locally but also exported to various countries around the world. In the past, mosly the Celuk village population were farmers, some families who belonged to the Caste of Pande that pioneered this silver and gold smith journey. As tourism was becoming the main commodity in Bali, it influenced the populations to leave their farm and learn to craft silver and gold.
In 1976, almost all of the villagers had become silver and gold smiths. Today they are specialists in their field and produce such fine quality jewelry with the most basic traditional tools.
Visit the workshops and see the Artisans at work. They use a tree stump with a protruding iron spike as a pounding base, a bamboo stem to catch the filings, and a manually operated gas pump for heat. The silver filigree work is absolutely beautiful.
Browse the various shops, look through the vast options available or ask for your own custom piece to be handmade. Remember to bargain for the right price. The jewelry is of high-grade quality and they are able to make to order for custom orders or can produce an item in large quantities.
Celuk belongs to the Gianyar regency and is located in the district of Sukawati about 15km North eat of Denpasar. Rent a car in Ubud or Kintamani as these would be your closest major towns to it. The main road of Jalan Raya Celuk is lined up with galleries and workshops.
