Ubud, a town in central Bali, is far removed from the active night life and bikini scene in Kuta, and is regarded as the cultural centre of Bali. It is famous as an arts and crafts hub, and much of the town and nearby villages seems to consist of artists’ workshops and galleries. There are some remarkable architectural and other sights to be found, and a general feeling of well being to be enjoyed, all thanks to the spirit, surroundings, and climate of the place.
If you are travelling on a budget or just want to experience Ubud from a traditional home rather than a fancy hotel then have a look through our recommended list of Ubud Homestays. We have collected some highly recommended homestays in Ubud which will suit any budget.

Dono guesthouse is situated on Jalan Hanoman, one of the main roads in Ubud, a vibrant, bustling street filled with art galleries, clothing stores, tattoo parlours, spa and treatment centers, cafes and restaurants of all types.
The Guesthouse is an art showroom and guesthouse with spacious single, double and twin rooms. All rooms have fans, but none have air con. The cottages are also fairly close together, so privacy is not paramount.
It does offer hot water and clean big bathrooms. My favorite thing about this place is that it is literally just around the corner from the amazing Down To Earth organic restaurant and only a short walk from Taksu spa. On the downside it is a bit more noisy than some of the other options due to it being located on Jalan Hanoman.

Dana Sari Accommodation
Dana Sari is situated in a compound of three really nice guest houses overlooked the scenic rice paddies of Ubud, just off the main road of Hanoman. Far back enough to be relatively quiet, although there is some traffic noise in the middle of the day.
This is very nice accommodation with clean rooms, not huge, but with a big bed and mosquito net, hot water, nice patio with great view of rice paddies.
The owners are friendly and speak good English. This is a very popular place that always seems to have lots of people staying, possibly because it’s great value for money!
