The Tegenungan Waterfall is located close to the city of Denpasar and the only waterfall that is not in the mountains. A great visit if you are staying in Ubud as it’s a quick drive to view this unique waterfall with it’s lush green surroundings.  This is the perfect place for swimming or lounging in the cool, fresh water at the base of the falls.

Tegenungan falls

A distant shot of the falls by Nana Artana – our recommended guide.

Before you get to the base of teh falls, why not stop at one of the shower baths that were built with the natural spring water supplying water. They are refreshing and offer a quiet retreat from the sometimes busy pools at the base of the falls.  It’s very social though and so beautiful.

The walk down to the falls is pretty steep but easy, just reserve some energy to take all the stairs back up again.  Luckily there’s a little shop midway which sells water, cold drinks and snacks which was my refresher spot for the stairs ahead.  Well worth it!

For photography lovers, you should come to the Tegenungan Waterfall in the afternoon or evening, as the waterfall faces west, the light is amazing at those times of day.
